Apps and bookmarks that save time and money while improving your trip

I hate taking up phone space for a ton of apps; but, I hate wasting time and money even more. Here is my top go-to list of apps and websites when traveling. From hitting the best sights and saving big bucks to finding toilets and playgrounds, these apps and bookmarks change the world of travel.

Niagara trip booked through Groupon app
  1. Groupon.  App and/or web. In addition to being great for finding insanely cheap hotels or vacation packages, Groupon can be of use once you’re on-location.  When we’re out and about, I’ll often check for restaurants or activities in the area to snag a deal.
  2. Restaurant.com. App and/or web. You can purchase gift certificates at up to 50% off.  It never hurts to double check for the restaurant you’re about to eat at anyway and see if you can snag some big savings.  That being said, sometimes it takes a few hours for the gift certificate to process, so don’t wait until you’re in the restaurant to purchase!
  3. Playground Buddy. App.  You can search for playgrounds by location.  You can also filter for specific equipment, including ramps and ADA features.  I’ve found that the accessibility information is often missing, so I also suggest:
  4. AccessiblePlayground.net.  Web.  They offer a directory of accessible and inclusive playgrounds around the world.  It may not be exhaustive, but I double checked for all of the playgrounds I know of and they were all there!
  5. Visit A City. App/Web.  Detailed itineraries for many styles or lengths of trip.  I especially love this for cities we’re passing through without a lot of time.  Instead of spending hours researching for our 12 hour stop, I can choose a focused itinerary and get a decent tour.
  6. Flush or Bathroom Scout. App.  Find toilets by location. This is brilliant for travel with small kids.
  7. Mommy Nearest. App.  If your kids are too young to worry about finding toilets, this can help find a changing table.  Honestly, I’ve given up on changing tables. If a place hasn’t installed one, they can deal with me using their bench.  The app also has a directory for family friendly locations and events.
  8. Museums4all.org. Web.  This is specific to families with disabilities and/or low income within the U.S.  It’s a list of museums and attractions that offer free or significantly reduced admission.  Let me just say that we’ve not spent more than $2 per person to go anywhere (other than Disney) over the past year.
  9. WondersWithinReach.com. Well, of course you should check here for inspiration on great places to travel!
$2 Admission at the Please Touch Museum through Museums4all website

I hope these must have apps and bookmarks for traveling change your world! Am I missing anything amazing??  Let me know what you find super helpful when you’re on the road!
