Wheelchair Accessories for Kids (WheelStarz Review)

Wheelies with WheelStarz pushrim covers

Winter is hard. Jaden, our seven year old wheelchair user, hates touching the cold metal on his chair all winter long, but struggles to get a good grip with winter gloves, and wheelchair gloves don’t keep his hands warm.

Last Christmas, we ran into a grown-up wheelchair user with warm hands at a holiday market. She had a rubber cover around the pushrim on her wheels. We stopped to ask her about it, and she shared how it not only keeps her hands warm in winter, but it keeps them cool in summer when the metal gets hot.

We searched Amazon and tried to get our own, but struggled to find wheelchair accessories that fit a child’s chair and ended up making returns and giving up.

WheelStarz

When WheelStarz contacted us to review their wheelchair accessories, and said they had a perfect fit, we were happy to give it a try!

The stranger at the Christmas market wasn’t exaggerating. These pushrim covers are an all-around upgrade. In addition to comfortable temperatures for hands in both summer and winter, they improve grip for better control on hills and stronger pushes on rough terrain. Oh, and they’re also a fun splash of color! Perfect pediatric wheelchair accessory.

The pushrim covers, or Wheel Power, is the only product we’ve tried, but they have other options for kids’ wheelchairs.

They also have wheelchair gloves, Super Grip, for better wheel contact and skin protection; and Wheel Skinz to cover your wheels and protect your floors after a fun day outside.

If you’re just looking for something to add some color and spice, they also offer Spinning Magic spoke covers. You could combine all the products and turn your child’s wheelchair into a rolling rainbow!

Kid-sized wheelchair accessories can be hard to come by, so I hope this is a useful resource!
